Saw Ola Podrida and The Acorn at Union Hall on Saturday night. Both bands put in a solid effort. I saw The Acorn open for Phosphorescent back in March and I liked them enough to go back for seconds. After a while their songs start to sound the same and I find myself zoning out a little…but not necessarily in a bad way, just in a really relaxed, meditative way. There’s something infectious about their tribal rhythms, hand claps and hyper positivity. During both performances they seemed genuinely happy to be in New York and genuinely thankful for having an audience to play for. They’re unpretentious folk who play good music and seem to have a good time doing so. I appreciate The Acorn and their music (I also appreciate squirrels and adorable crocheted acorns).

PS – I didn’t want to write about the show, but Oliver said I should. He said it would give me “street cred.” Since that’s all I really want out of life, I went for it. Show, show, show, music, music, music, bands and concerts, I go to them and I like them!!! Am I legit yet?
not until you bust a cap in a few hipsters.
