Canadians know what’s up. Jennifer, the very sweet Canadian girl who sublet my apartment, tipped me off to her friend’s band, The Hidden Cameras (what’s the past tense of ’sublet’? ). They’re a little bit Arcade Fire, a little bit Magnetic Fields, a little bit Bronski Beat, a little bit Grizzly Bear, a little bit Architecture In Helsinki, a little bit…wait, I’m not being fair. No band wants to be considered a knock-off. The Hidden Cameras are not a cheap handbag purchased on Canal St. (Olvera St. for those of you in LA)! They’re totally unique. They’ve created their own brand of melodic-acoustic-indie-folksy-ensemble-blardy-blardy-blah… Truth is, I compare one band to another because I’m too lazy to come up with new fangled words to describe sounds. It’s the strangest thing, searching for words to label music. Better to just listen. Below are some songs and a Blogotheque video. If you don’t know what Blogotheque is by now, you are way behind the times, my friend. Do yourself a favor and check out some of their videos.
