Saw Best Coast at Mercury Lounge a couple nights ago. Great show (aside from the Avril Lavigne bits). Her music goes very well with French films from the 1960s.

An iconic director has passed away. He leaves behind a legacy of great movies. And he also had a lot to do with picking the soundtracks for these movies. Here are some songs that he used in such flicks as “The Breakfast Club”, “Uncle Buck”, “National Lampoon’s Vacation” series, “Weird Science”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, “The Great Outdoors”, “Sixteen Candles”, “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” and others.
General Public- Taking the Day Off
Dr. John- New Looks
Dream Academy- The Edge Of Forever
Spandau Ballet- True
Oingo Boingo- Weird Science
Beverly D’Angelo- Hey, Big Spender
English Beat- March of The Swivelheads

Not to be confused with Klaus Kinski. Long before Bale, there was Kinski:
My Brother Is An Only Child

I saw “My Brother Is An Only Child” last night (screenplay by the guys who wrote “Best of Youth”). Thoroughly enjoyed it. The film does a nice job of portraying Italy’s political situation from the late 1960’s to the 70’s. But I wouldn’t call it a political film. The Italian zeitgeist serves as a backdrop for a classic coming-of-age story about family, brotherhood and love. It has its share of unnecessary melodrama and sappiness, but like any hot Italian man, it charmed the pants off of me! I like the film’s tag line: Sometimes it’s the things we fight about that bring us closer together. So true, friends…so true. I also really dig the soundtrack – Italian covers of classic 60’s tunes (which I’ll try to track down), and these two numbers from Nada Malanima:
